Fear & exposure
Step toward what you avoid.
Gradually approach situations you tend to avoid, building the capacity to act while afraid. This is skills practice, not treatment, and never a substitute for professional care.
Approaching avoided situations and staying present with fear.
Four levels of intensity
You start gentle and build up only as you are ready.
Imagining it
You picture a situation you usually avoid.
Objective: Notice the fear without turning away.
Getting closer
You take a first small step toward the feared thing.
Objective: Stay with rising discomfort a little longer.
In the situation
You are inside the situation you fear.
Objective: Act on your value rather than on the urge to flee.
Staying with it
The fear peaks and asks you to escape.
Objective: Let the fear rise and fall without abandoning the moment.
